So maybe you have been to someones Facebook page and notice the photo they have used looks odd, and contains cut off elements. Maybe you have attempted to make a Facebook Cover Photo of say your family, or other elements which get cut off when the users social media page is loaded. Facebook, Twitter, and many other social media websites have specific dimensions so your Twitter and Facebook page look perfect when viewed with the other elements on the page or feed. Furthermore, with mobile friendly websites HTML 5 / CSS 3, they want your cover image or header image to look good on different devices when viewed.
I have posted below the specific dimensions of Facebook, and have included an example Photoshop file & JPEG Image, where you can load these in your favorite image editing software to create and make your cover image / header image, stand out as this is the first thing your audience will see.
Facebook Cover Image Template
The dimensions for Facebook Cover images as of 09/30/2016 “displays” as follows:
- 828 pixels wide by 315 pixels tall on your Page on computers and 640 pixels wide by 360 pixels tall on smartphones.
- Must be at least 399 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall
- Loads fastest as an sRGB JPG file that’s 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall and less than 100 kilobytes
There you have it, the optimal Facebook Cover Image for personal pages is 851 Pixels in Width and 315 Pixels in Height. At this resolution, it will display perfectly on desktops, but a little squarish on mobile devices.
The most important part of a great Facebook Cover image is important elements are not hidden by the users 160 X 160 profile image, and cut off by the buttons, or distracted by the users profile name.
Contained in the Photoshop file below, I have created layers, masks, and guides to help you in creating the perfect Facebook Cover image.
And now the final image for the Facebook cover image.
