WordPress Twenty Sixteen Display Summary / Excerpts on Blog

WordPress LogoSo when I was designing this site, I decided to use the WordPress Twenty Sixteen theme which comes packaged with WordPress. The theme is clean, sleek, and easy to use, besides, I felt lazy designer another theme. I noticed on major feature missing was the ability to show Excerpts or Summaries on the main Blog page, even if you use manual entry. On previous Twenty something theme, you were able to just change one line of code to get the Excerpts to show, automatically. not having excerpts results is a very long blog page.

  1. Either edit your content.php file in your text editor of your choice, or in your WordPress installation, for to your WordPress Dashboard > Appearance > Editor.
  2. Look for your content.php file which might be at the very bottom.
  3. Click to open the file in edit mode, and look for the code below.
Now replaced the code above, or between the “entry-content” with the code below.
When the changes are complete, Save the file or click on the “Save” button, and check your homepage. If you are using a cache plugin, be sure to Refresh or Reload your page. Also remember, once you update your theme, these changes will be lost.
